DOLBY DESIGN SYSTEM

DOLBY BRAND DESIGN System

One of Voron’s most significant contributions to Dolby was the redesign of their brand architecture as well as creating a multi-sensory and multi-functional Brand Design System (BDS) that provides guidance about our strategies for positioning the company as an innovator in sight and sound. It sets guidelines for ways to communicate that message effectively through visual, audiovisual, UI and UX, industrial, and environmental design systems.

In broad strokes, this system is centered around taking users across a threshold — a moment that separates the ordinary from the extraordinary, creating focus and intrigue. Then we reveal the spectacular, suddenly putting people into another world where they feel every dimension.

The team uses the BDS both to plan and to review materials created in house and by partner agencies. It is their guide and touchstone for compliance with asset usage, fine-tuning of design elements, and overall tone of messaging.

As the author and visionary of the BDS and the steward of its interpretation, Voron and his team are responsible for maintaining the integrity of the design system and providing creative approval.

The  brand strategy that Voron’s team conceived internally,  is at the heart of the Dolby Brand Design System architecture, functioning as a guide for all we do.

Flowing out from our brand strategy, our design strategy and principles find their expression in unique works of visual design, user interaction and user experience, audiovisual production, environmental design, and product design.

The team creates expressions and experiences that provide a sense of the magic that Dolby technology enables. We inspire and astonish the user, free the artist, and empower industries from broadcast to cinema to home and mobile entertainment.

This new brand design system won a bronze IDSA award in 2018.

The Dolby Brand Design System subtly reinforces the sense of Dolby as technical magician, working at the intersection of art and science to transport people across a threshold of what they thought was possible.

With guidance for everything from color palettes to gradients, and from textures to forms, the Brand Design System is a springboard for creativity.

Using the Brand Design System, our industrial designers explored many shapes, tested multiple materials and finishes, and built numerous models of what ultimately became the Dolby Conference Phone.
