In 2012, Voron’s North American design team took on the challenge to create a strategic design brief and do a global agency search for the right partner and manufacturer to redesign the Coca-Cola Times Square billboard as it was reaching its end of life and the fractured form design made it difficult to leverage Coke’s wealth of video advertising.
While millions of consumers travel to New York City’s Times Square every year, few brands have ever been able to stand out. Coca-Cola set out on a mission to change that – and set themselves up for another decade of creative prowess.
The end result was they chose to partner with Space150 design and together create the worlds first 3D robotic billboard. It took five years to design and execute.
Drawing on inspiration from Coke’s 3D design and elements that Voron’s team created a mixed reality. The new display features thousands of independent, computerized LED cubes that move seamlessly together to bring new virtual dimension and movement to static, video, and 3D content.
