Combining Dolby’s expertise across art and science, Dolby Dimension is the first consumer product from Dolby, an expression of their mission to create and enable spectacular entertainment experiences, with Voron’s brand content experiences team, leading all facets of the design and bringing this collective vision to life.

Dolby Dimension — premium headphones with spectacular sound and an acoustic transparency feature — lets people enjoy their entertainment while staying connected to their environment. Combining premium design with easy device switching, Dolby Dimension is positioned to revitalize and redefine the headphones experience.

Voron’s Product & UX Design Experiences team worked with teams across Dolby to design the hardware, with an emphasis on long-term comfort and intuitive control. Just as beautiful and functional as the headphones is the Power Base, a charging station that keeps Dolby Dimension accessible and always on display.

His brand strategy and content teams devised a 'Core Creative Idea' to inform Dolby Dimension’s visual identity, tone and voice, our first iPhone and Android app, product website, consumer campaign, videos, and brand guidelines.

All product and marketing collateral were created in house by Voron’s team and they represent a bold new extension of the Dolby Brand Design System, creating cohesion with Dolby’s master brand while forging a new path forward.

VISUAL DESIGN DIRECTION

The visual direction for the Dolby Dimension Headphones, the company’s first consumer electronic product, is based on a balance between art and science — the core of the Dolby brand. To reinforce the sense of a premium device with advanced technology, we used a dark environment and typefaces that lean toward the technical. To reflect a more artistic side,
we kept the visuals buttery and cinematic, with a shallow depth of field and a vibrant mysterious haze.

COLOR PALETTE / "SOUL"

The color palette is balanced between our vibrant accented-magenta, a warm color representing art, and a dark grayscale, impassive and cool, representing science.

To balance Dolby Dimension’s technical aspects, we wanted to show the result of the Dolby Dimension experience.

We created what we call the “soul” of Dolby Dimension. An abstract representation of the experience that Dolby Dimension provides, this soul is an organic shape that behaves like an equalizer, moving according to the sound of every world that Dolby Dimension gives you access to.

In static material, the soul should be out
of focus. We use animation to show the shape in focus, as sound is crucial for the understanding of the soul.
