Beginning in1998, under Voron’s leadership, Apple’s Design team introduced radically new colors, materials and forms to the computer industry. The corporate infrastructure was not prepared to handle the level of prototyping, cosmetic discipline and new processes to support the creative concepts. Within a period of months Apple went from a company that had less than 50 custom colors and finishes to over 400. They also introduced products of a micro form factor for the first time (earbuds, iPod Nano, mini). Voron’s team was comprised of Color Design Consultants, Material Specialists, and Program Managers. Innovations included the development of optically clear translucent resins, translucent keycaps, metallic finishes for labels and trackpads as well as co-molded thermoplastics and poly carbonate.
